Robin Palanker

Robin Palanker works with the perception of implied movement to evoke a palpable sense of atmosphere, contrasting dynamic motion with utter stasis. Recurring in her work are themes of longing, of home, of safety, flying, sleeping, romance. Her models are often dancers, acrobats, martial artists, friends and pets. The paintings have a luminous quality as they are rendered in an invented technique of pastels and dry pigment, worked carefully over by use of Palanker’s only tools: her hands. She has exhibited expensively and her work can be found in many collections throughout the United States and aboard. She is a graduate of the prestigious California Institute of the Arts and has taught at colleges throughout the Los Angeles area and with gifted high schoolers at Ryman Arts where she was awarded the Sharon Disney Lund Master Teacher award.
